Huskies Play Host To Denver
Huskies Host Denver: The St. Cloud State
University hockey team returns to the
National Hockey Center (6,000) for the
second of four straight home series. The
Huskies will take on the University of Denver,
Friday and Saturday, January 30-31 at the
NHC. Game time both nights is 7:05 p.m.
The Record : St. Cloud State is 15-7-2
overall and 12-5-1 in the WCHA. The
University of Denver is 7-17-0 overall and
4-12-0 in the WCHA. The Huskies are tied
with Wisconsin for second place in the
WCHA, just two points behind league leader
North Dakota. Denver is in ninth place with
eight points.
Series Record: The University of Denver
leads the series with the Huskies 16-15-3.
Earlier this season, the Huskies swept the
Pioneers in Denver, 6-4 and 6-2. The last
time Denver played in St. Cloud was on Jan.
26-27, 1996 and SCSU lost 2-4 and tied 4-4
in overtime.
Saturday Game to be Broadcast on UPN 9:
SaturdayÕs game versus Denver will be
broadcast live on UPN 9 (KMSP-TV). Wally
Shaver will call the play-by-play and Doug
Johnson will provide the color commentary.
Air time is 7 p.m.
Reading For Fun: On Saturday morning,
Brian Leitza and Kyle McLaughlin will be at
the St. Cloud Library reading to children as
part of the Huskies Reading For Fun program.
The athletes will read from 10:30 to 11:15.
Live Television Deal: UPN 9 (KMSP-TV)
will broadcast six Husky hockey games live
this season. Wally Shaver will call the
play-by-play and Doug Johnson will provide
the color commentary. The 1997-98
broadcast games are as follows. Oct. 25 vs.
Mankato, Nov. 1 vs. Minnesota-Duluth, Dec.
13 at North Dakota, Dec. 20 vs. Minnesota,
Jan. 23 vs. North Dakota and Jan. 31 vs.
Denver.
On the Radio: Husky Hockey can be heard
all season long on KNSI Radio1450 AM.
Play-by-Play Announcer Tom Witschen is in
his fourth season of calling the action for the
Huskies. Former SCSU All-American Dave
Reichel will provide the color commentary for
all Husky home games. The pre-game show
will begin at 6:35 both nights. KVSC 88.1 FM
will also broadcast the Denver series.
Pre-game will begin at 6:45.

TV Tape Delay: Husky Productions will
broadcast all Husky home games on tape
delay. The games can be seen on TCI
Channel 6 at 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday
nights of home weekends. Tory Holt and
Todd Karich will call the action.
Husky Magazine Returns: Husky Magazine,
a half-hour sports show featuring St. Cloud
State Athletics returns to the airwaves winter
quarter. The program will be aired Saturday
mornings at 5 oÕclock on UPN9. Robb Lutz,
John London and Shane Devine are the hosts
of the program which features coach and
player interviews, as well as conference
previews.
Last Weekend: The Huskies and North
Dakota met at the National Hockey Center in
a battle for first place. UND came into the
series two points ahead of the Huskies and
maintained that distance with a series split as
SCSU posted a 6-2 win Friday and UND
posted a 6-2 Saturday win. These two teams
have split in each of the last four series. The
announced crowd of 7,051 Saturday night
was the fourth full house ever at the NHC and
second this season. The first three 7,051
attendance marks were against Minnesota.
Husky Team Notes: Over the last four
games, the Huskies have posted a 1-3-0
record...SCSU is 7-4-2 at home this season
and will play seven of their last ten games at
home...the Denver series marks the second of
four straight home series during the second
half for the Huskies...the last seven meetings
between the Pioneers and the Huskies have
been played in Denver, with SCSU gaining a
4-2-1 advantage...the Pioneers are 7-4-1
all-time at the NHC...the last time DU played
in St. Cloud was on January 26-27, 1996...the
Huskies allowed their first short handed goal
of the season on Saturday...SCSU is 11-3-0
when being out shot by the opponent and are
8-2-0 when taking 20-29 shots during a game.
Husky Player Notes: The Huskies gold line
of junior left wing Jason Goulet (Warroad)
and sophomores center Matt Noga (Evergreen
Park, IL ) and right wing Mike Rucinski
(Grand Forks) combined for three goals and
four assists in FridayÕs win...Goulet played in
his 100th career game Friday and tallied his
first three point game of the season with three
assists...Rucinski also had his first three point
game of the season with two goals and an
assist...senior center Mike Maristuen played in
his 100th career game Saturday...Noga had a
goal in each of the UND games and has
scored a goal in three straight games...senior
center Jason Stewart (Inver Grove Heights)
had an assist in each game and has a t least
one assist in five of the Huskies last six games
(0-6-6)...senior center Rob Klasnick
(Pittsburgh, PA) scored his first goal of the
season on Friday...senior goaltender Brian
Leitza (Lake Villa, IL) recorded his 15th win
of the season Friday and 59th of his career.
SCSU Coaching Staff: St. Cloud State Head
Coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) is
in his 11th season with the Huskies and 17th
year as a collegiate coach. Dahl has a current
won/loss record of 183-193-28 record at
SCSU in ten -plus seasons. He has a 16-year
coaching mark of 244-274-29. He is the
winningest coach in Husky hockey. Associate
Head Coach Tom Serratore (Bemidji, 1987)
is in his fifth season with the Huskies.
Assistant Coach Brett Petersen (Denver,1992)
is in his fourth season at SCSU.
