Nothing like a little gopher bashing to warm up Hockey-L!!

Recruiting practices at Minnesota should be no reason to`hate'
the gophers. There are plenty of good recruits in Minnesota to
go around, just look at the rosters of UND, UMD, St. Cloud, WISC,
CC, etc etc. Are you upset because your roster is only half Minnesota
kids?
The gophers don't always get the best players in the state and they
don't always get the players they want. (they wanted Toby Peterson
really bad but he went to CC) Competition for the Minnesota kids has
gotten a lot tougher too. When St.Cloud St. was trying to get into
the WCHA they publicly stated they were committed to recruiting
Minnesota kids. Now that their program is on its feet and successful
they have 19 Minnesotans on their roster including the best recruit
in Matt Cullen. Do you hate them too?
The gophers recruiting policy is simple: if they can put a competitive
team on the ice with Minnesota kids they will, that way the in-state
kid gets a good education and the recruiting process is easier.
So back off on the recuiting whining. The real reason there are
gopher bashers out there is because every time they come into your
rink you know the gophers have a chance to win!
