Here are some additional cuts from the Susan Adeletti article in the 4/13
issue of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. These are Alaska-Fairbanks (UAF)
athletic director Kelly Higgins' reaction to Northern Michigan's reported
application to the CCHA and the possibility of UAF then moving from the
CCHA to the WCHA.

Laurion and UAF athletic director Kelly Higgins, meanwhile, see that the
probable Northern Michigan move could be a window of opportunity for the
Nanooks.

Higgins has talked to both the CCHA and WCHA about the possibility of UAF
and the WCHA's UA Anchorage playing within the same league--for the sake of
easing UAF's crazed schedule and financial burdens.

"Ultimately that is absolutely the best scenario," Higgins said. "It makes
a lot of sense--you have an in-state rivalry already set up ... and
financially it's a benefit to both schools."

"We have a vested interest in what happens to Northern Michigan, whether
it's strictly a scheduling issue or if something happens within the
leagues," Higgins said, adding that if the WIldcats are admitted to the
CCHA, he guessed they wouldn't officially join until the 1997-98 season.

"This all kind of plays itself as a big puzzle--there are so many
possibilities that it's hard to speculate," he said. "It's an open
ballgame right now, in essence.

"The CCHA tooks us in out of the cold and we're damn grateful for that," he
added. "But we've always got to look at the options--what are the best
options for the University of Alaska Fairbanks."

That's about it.
