Thank you very much for the reply. In the meantime I had done some
research on my own and found out that, if my sources are correct,
even though Colgate doesn't give athletic scholarships per se, it
has a policy of giving preferential treatment to varsity athletes
that is slightly different from what the Ivy League universities are
allowed to do. Evidently Colgate eliminates or reduces the self-help
component from the financial aid package (loan plus job) for many, if
not all of its varsity athletes who qualify for financial aid.
