MAINE 5 Providence 2

This game was over halfway through the first period as Maine built a 3-0 at
the 10:09 mark of the first period, and coasted home for a convincing 5-2
victory.
Brad Purdie scored two goals at 6:43, and 10:09 of the first period, after
Jason Mansoff started the scoring at 3:45. Jeff Tory had two assists in the
game to increase his total to 26 so far this year.
Maine Coach Shawn Walsh challenged his team to play more physical, and they
did play more physical, but less disiplined at times as Maine gave
Providence 9 power-play chances, but Providence could only convert on one of
those. Maine was 1 for 5 on the power-play as well.
Providence goals were scored by Hansen and Kramer. Kramer's goal came while
on a 5 on 3 advantage in the second period. Tony Frenette and Trevor
Roenick also knotched goals for Maine.
Dennis started in goal for Providence, but was pulled after the second
period with the score 5-2. Bob Bell shut out the Black Bears througout the
third period.
Providence played very well, but it was clear that Maine was determined
after the loss to UMass. The crowd at Schinder Arena is said to be the
largest in some time, and also the most enthusiastic.
Maine next will travel to UMass-Lowell Saturday night, Providence will host
Merrimack.
