It was reported on Maine coach Shawn Walsh's call-in show that Maine is
still #1 in 3 of the 4 polls (The WMEB Poll had Maine at a #2), this
despite the loss to UMass. As one caller said, and I want to echo his
opinion because I think it is a fantastic point.Since the consensus in the
polls now is that Maine is still #1, it is showing recognition of the UMass
program by the pollsters. I think this is still something else that is
positive for the young program.

In other notes today, Walsh said that injured Maine forward Wayne Conlan has
been skating, and skating well. Walsh was unsure if he would use him Friday
against Providence, but he appears to be recovered from his knee injury
sustained against Merrimack. Also, Walsh said that injured forward Shawn
Wansborough, will begin skating Monday. I would expect that Walsh will
leave him out of the lineup till the Feb. 25 game against UMass-Lowell,
because Maine has a week break prior to that series.

Walsh doesn't think Maine goalie Blair Allison is tiring, even though he has
played every game. Walsh did say that he reluctant to use Marsh, because he
was unsure of what it would do to Allison's mental state. He also said that
he thinks Allison is having an All-American season. Backup Blair Marsh has
played 66+ minutes this year, witout allowing a single goal. Walsh thinks
Marsh is playing well, and did not say he would not use him.
