Summary:

Union built a 6-2 third period lead and had to hold off a late
Dartmouth rally to hold on to beat the Big Green, 6-5, at Achilles
Rink Friday night. Jon Sicinski and Jay Prentice had two goals each
for Union, helping Union to their largest offensive output since
November.

Union took a one-goal lead early in the game on freshman Boe Leslie's
first career goal. Sicinski added his first goal at 18:51 and Union
appeared headed in for the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. But
Dartmouth came right back to make it 2-1 on Patrick Turcotte's first
of 2 goals on the night. Dartmouth tied it at 5:29 of the first, but
Sicinski scored again for Union at 5:52 to give the Dutchmen the lead
for good. Troy Stevens broke out of his scoring slump to give Union a
2-goal lead, and Prentice followed with his first of the night to give
the Dutchmen a 5-2 lead at the second intermission.

Everyone in the rink thought that the rout was on when Prentice scored
again just 9 seconds into the third period. It certainly didn't turn
out that way. Dartmouth turned up the pressure and scored two quick
goals at 6:46 and 6:58 to make it a 2-goal game. Union goalie Trevor
Koenig looked shaky, and the rout was turning into a hockey game
again. Koenig and the Union defense held off the Big Green for the
next 10 minutes before Dion DelMonte made it a 6-5 game at 16:21. The
rest of the way, it was nothing but Union holding on and trying their
best to kill off the clock. Dartmouth kept the pressure on right
until the end, and Union was unable to take any shots at the empty
net. Koenig did get the job done, though, and Union came away with a
badly-needed 2 points.

The Dutchmen improve to 3-6-2 in the league and 6-9-2 overall.
