Colorado College beats Minnesota 4-3 in their first trip to the new Mariucci
Arena. The local cable company here was nice enough to show MSC's broadcast
of the game, so I got to watch it.
CC started out a little shaky in the first period, being totally outshot by
Minnesota, but Bach was outstanding in the net, making 31 saves for the game,
and only Bell scored for the Gophers late in the first to lead 1-0 after one.
Bach lost sight of where the puck bounced and didn't even see the shot.
The Tigers came out strong in the second, however, scoring 3 unanswered goals
to take the lead 3-1. Jason Gudmundson scored a power play goal to tie it
up 3 minutes into the second. Then later, Tim Sweezo and Peter Geronazzo
scored 37 seconds apart. Justin McHugh closed the gap to one for Minnesota,
and the score was 3-2 CC at the end of two. Early in the second, it looked
like Bach might be out with a shoulder injury, and Lambert was put in, but it
ended up not being very serious, and he was back in the game soon.
In the third, Chad Remackel scored the fourth goal for CC. Checco brought
the Gophers within one again, and the last 5 minutes were tense for Tiger fans,
as we hoped the comeback kids wouldn't pull it off again. With one minute
left Callinan was pulled for the extra man, but then Bell got a penalty and a
ten minute misconduct for protesting the call, so it was 5-on-5 for the last
30 seconds or so.
Same two teams tomorrow night. Hopefully CC won't blow it like they did
last Saturday in Madison.
