Senior Dave Murphy had a hat trick and sophomore Scott Mangene added two
goals as the Penn State Icers slaughtered the Maryland Terrapins 12-4 last
night at the Ice Pavilion. The victory gave the Icers a perfect 8-0-0 season
in the Atlantic Collegiate Hockey League. The Icers will face either Maryland
(now 1-6-0 in the ACHL) or West Chester (record unknown) in the ACHL Semifinals
on Feb. 26, while Rhode Island squares off against Delaware.

Murphy, Rob Keegan, and Matt Cavrak all scored for the Icers in the first
period, as PSU took a 3-0 lead into the locker room. The Icers would make it
5-0 before Maryland would score its first goal of the night as Tiernan Wallace
knocked in a rebound past Icer netminder Dennis Magulick. Penn State would
score three more in the second to the Terps' one, and the Icers led 8-2 after
two. PSU outscored Maryland 4-2 in the final frame for the 12-4 final. The
Icers move to 23-0-0 on the season, while Maryland falls to 7-11-1. This
afternoon, the Icers will host the Midshipmen of Navy in a somewhat closer
contest than last night. Earlier this season, Penn State defeated Navy 8-3
at Annapolis. Navy brings a 10-3-2 record and a #12 national ranking into the
Ice Pavilion. The annual Alumni game will be held immediately following the
Icers-Navy contest. Icer Head Coach Joe Battista, an Icer from 1978-82(?),
will be on the other side of the bench this evening...
