UMASS DARTMOUTH MAY HOST NCAA PLAYOFF GAME SATURDAY
NEW BEDFORD, MA–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team may play their NCAA Division III quarterfinal playoff game at home Saturday. But they will have to wait until Wednesday evening to find out where the game will be played.
The NCAA Division III Ice Hockey Committee has tabbed Middlebury as the host team if the Panthers defeat SUNY Fredonia in their first round game at Kenyon Arena Wednesday evening. If the Blue Devils prevail, they would visit the Stephan Hetland Memorial Arena Saturday evening. Game time Saturday will be 7:00 p.m. regardless of the game’s location.
The Corsairs are the first team representing the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast to earn a first round bye in the NCAA Division III Championships. Fredonia earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships by upsetting Plattsburgh State in Saturday’s State University of New York Athletic Conference championship game at Plattsburgh. Middlebury also earned an automatic bid by defeating host Bowdoin in the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship game Sunday. The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four at Wisconsin-Superior March 17th and 18th.
