             3. G Mike Veisor, Northeastern (38 sh-33 sv).

Freshman Shannon Basaraba's power play goal with 1:34 left in the
second period broke a 2-2 tie and sent visiting fifth seed Mass Lowell
on to a 5-2 upset win over #4 Northeastern in the Hockey East
Quarterfinals.

Mass Lowell joins #6 Providence in advancing to the Boston Garden for
next week's Hockey East Semifinals. Both teams won as underdog road
seeds.

Basaraba, who was named the game's second star, also assisted on
the goal that gave Lowell a 2-1 lead at 13:42 of the second.

Leading 3-2 into the third, Lowell got an unassisted goal from Greg
Bullock to take a commanding 4-2 lead at 6:21, and then David Dartsch
slammed the door shut with his ninth goal at 18:23 for the 5-2 final.
Bullock assisted on the Dartsch goal, giving him totals of 25-40--65
in 38 games.

Northeastern got goals from Jordon Shields and J.F. Aube to enable
the Huskies to tie the game at 2-2 before Basaraba's winner late in
the second.

Craig Lindsay played well and stopped 27 NU shots to help preserve
the win for Lowell. Mike Veisor faced 38 shots and stopped 33
including several in the third when Lowell threatened to put the
game away with almost an entire period left.

As a result of the loss, Northeastern is eliminated from the Hockey
East Tournament but still has an outside shot at landing a bid to
the NC$$ Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament next weekend. However,
chances of that appear very slim at this point.

Like fellow semifinalist Providence, Lowell can only gain a bid to
the NC$$ Tournament by winning the Hockey East Tournament.

NOTES
* With BC and Northeastern having been eliminated already, only
one Boston team, #2 BU, remains in the tournament. BU will take on
Merrimack Sunday night in quarterfinal action. If BU is upset, it
would mark the first time ever that no Boston teams had made it to
the HE semifinals.

* With the upsets that have occurred already, no more than two
top four seeds can make it to the semifinals, as #2 BU and #1 Maine
have yet to play their quarterfinal games. We already know that
1995 will be the first time ever that the HE semifinals do not
involve at least three top four seeds.

* Three games, three upsets...will there be more?
