The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for March 23, 1994:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

Not surprisingly, Colorado College made HOCKEY-L's Top 12, which of course
is small consolation for missing out on the NC$$'s. But it appears that
HOCKEY-L voters (at least, the nine who responded this week) would have sent
Colorado College to the tournament in place of Northeastern, with all other
teams remaining pretty much the same. Time to start writing letters?

     Tad-rate:

     1. Boston University (3) 45
     2. Michigan 42
     3. Harvard 34
     4. Wisconsin 31
     5. Lake Superior 30
     6. Mass Lowell 27
     7. Minnesota 25
     8. New Hampshire 24
     9. Colorado College 16
          St. Cloud 16
     11. RPI 14
     12. Northern Michigan 13
     13. Northeastern 11
     14. Michigan State 10
          Western Michigan 10

Just to throw even more fuel on the fire... using Tad-rate, the preliminary
seedings for the NC$$ tournaments would have been:

East: Boston University, Harvard, Mass Lowell, New Hampshire, RPI,
          Northeastern

West: Michigan, Wisconsin, Lake Superior, Minnesota, Colorado College,
          St. Cloud

(giving the edge to Colorado College based on their 3-0-1 season record vs.
St. Cloud)

New Hampshire and Northeastern cross over to the Western regional (letting
RPI stay at home), while Colorado College and St. Cloud go East. Then,
reseeding within the regionals produces the final tournament seeds:

East: Boston University, Harvard, Mass Lowell, Colorado College, RPI,
          St. Cloud

West: Michigan, Wisconsin, Lake Superior, Minnesota, New Hampshire,
          Northeastern

RPI and St. Cloud switch places to prevent a first-round matchup between
WCHA members Colorado College and St. Cloud. This could also have been
prevented by swapping Mass Lowell and Colorado College, but RPI and St.
Cloud are much closer in the Tad-rate than the other two are.

So in the Tad-rate Tournament, the Eastern regionals have Colorado College
facing RPI with the winner taking on Boston University, and Mass Lowell
playing St. Cloud with Harvard getting the winner. In the West, Lake
Superior faces Northeastern (sounds familiar) for the right to play
Wisconsin, while Minnesota and New Hampshire battle with Michigan getting
the winner.

I know the Michigan State and Western Michigan folks would hate these
seedings, but somehow, they come out a lot neater than the actual NC$$ ones
did. Oh, well, we can dream...
