Re: PC-Maine -- it's a good think nothing like this could ever
happen in the ECAC. (That's a joke, HOCKEY EAST folks !) Clearly,
this year's PC-Maine problem is water over the dam; as the Brits
say, it's hard cheese for UNH. However, it might be worth
considering ways to avoid such situations in the future. Here is
another suggestion: Draft a rule that would allow a 2/3 (or even
3/4) vote of the league AD's to invoke a seeding principle for the
post season tournament, rather than league standings, WHEN SUCH A
PRINCIPLE WOULD SERVE THE LARGER PURPOSE FOR WHICH THE LEAGUE
EXISTS, NAMELY, FAIR COMPETITION. Actual seeding could be done by
an ad hoc committee of knowledgeable, disinterested parties -- say,
distinguished hockey retirees, or some Division II or III AD's.
