The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for February 9, 1994:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

The Beanpot apparently had little effect on the HOCKEY-L poll, as Boston
University and Harvard remained at #2 and #3 despite the Crimson's victory
(though the margin is about 20 points closer). Two other teams took some
good-sized hits, however. Colorado College, off a split at Alaska-
Anchorage, dropped four places to #9, while New Hampshire also lost four
spots after being swept at Maine. The week's biggest gainer was Wisconsin,
up three spots to #10 after beating Michigan Tech twice.

     Composite poll (25 responses):

Dropped out of Top 15: Brown (#15 last week)

It's unusual for a Western team to get a bigger boost from the East than
from the West, but that's exactly what seems to be happening to Michigan
State, which is five spots higher in the East poll than in the West poll
this week:

     Eastern responses: Western responses:

Somebody suggested that I split the votes into those which were sent before
the end of the Beanpot's first round and those which were sent after, and
here it is. BU and Harvard still hold on to second and third place post-
Beanpot, though the margin is a little closer. One thing the split does not
show is that Harvard actually had more #2 votes post-Beanpot than BU did.
Also note that Lake Superior, of all teams, took a big dive in the post-
Beanpot responses.

     Pre-Beanpot responses: Post-Beanpot responses:

     2. Boston University 97 2. Boston University 240
     3. Harvard 72 3. Harvard 225
          Lake Superior 72 4. Northern Michigan 166

          Western Michigan 13

The media and ratings composites should be taken with a grain or two of salt
this week, as most (if not all) of the media polls and all of the ratings
came out before the Beanpot results were in.
