Tonight, the upstart Brown Bears gave the first indication that they
are, indeed, a team to be reckoned with by upsetting the vaunted (and 11th
ranked) Harvard Crimson, 4-2, at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, MA.

Harvard took an early first period lead on a junior forward Dominic
Moore's slap shot from the top of the right circle which caromed into the
net off senior Bear goaltender Brian Eklund's skate. Freshman defenseman
Noah Welch and sophomore forward Tyler Kolarik were credited with assists..

At 2:20 of the second period, Brown tied the game at 1-1 when junior
forward & Assistant Captain Tye Korbl scored from the slot on the rebound of
an initial shot by junior forward Keith Kirley. The Bears took the lead at
7:35 of the middle stanza when J-F Labarre tipped a shot along the goal line
by junior forward Chris Legg past Harvard's sophomore goaltender, Will
Crothers.

Harvard retied the game, 2-2, at 4:38 of the third period when freshman
forward Brendan Bernakevuich's wrister beat Eklund cleanly from the right
special spot after taking a pass from Crimson sophomore forward Denis
Packard. The Bears took the lead for good at 11:19 when sophomore forward
Pascal Denis took an outlet pass from junior defenseman Paul Esdale and
scored the game-winner on a solo rush. The final goal was scored into an
empty net at 19:47 as Brown sophomore defenseman Scott Ford banked a
clearing shot off the right dasher glass which caromed through neutral ice
and into the net.

Will Crothers (Harvard) 23

Harvard must now await their game tomorrow (Sunday) evening with the
Dartmouth Big Green in a match-up of the two pre-season ECAC highest-ranked
teams, while Brown gets back to practice on Monday in preparation for the
trip to northern New England next weekend for games at Dartmouth (Fri.) and
Vermont (Sat.) as the Bears seek to prove their opening night performance
was signal of even better things to come.

Brown played without the services of senior defenseman & captain Josh
Barker who was nursing an ankle strain from the St. Francis Xavier
exhibition game a week ago, and Harvard's senior defenseman & captain, Peter
Capouch, did not dress due to a leg injury. Both players are expected back
at full strength by next weekend.

The Bears will finally open their home ECAC season at Meehan Auditorium
against the Colgate Raiders on Friday, November 16th.
