I hadn't seen anything on this before, so I'll post it:

From Today's Saint Paul Pioneer Press (03/08/95)

GOPHERS NOTEBOOK
U HOCKEY TEAM SIXTH IN RATINGS FOR PLAYOFFS
from staff reports

The University of Minnesota finished fourth in the Western
Collegiate Hockey Association in the regular season but still ranks
sixth in the latest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), which is used to
select teams for the NCAA tournament.
According to the RPI, which is compiled for Midwest Sports
Channel by ERIK BIEVER, Boston University is ranked first, followed by
Michigan, Maine, New Hampshire, Colorado College, Minnesota, Clarkson,
Wisconsin, Michigan State, Denver, Northeastern and Bowling Green.
Twelve teams make the NCAA tournament, and the four
regular-season conference champions - Colorado College, Maine, Michigan
and Clarkson - already are assured spots. The playoff winners in the
four leagues also receive automatic entry into the national tournament.
At 19-12-5, the Gophers have the 10th-best record in the nation,
but they are ranked No. 1 in strength of schedule. Hockey East champion
Maine (27-4-6) has the best winning percentage.

Carlos McGee, University of Minnesota sports information director
for hockey, has resigned to accept a managerial position with Nike.
McGee joined the university staff after working for the St. Paul
Pioneer Press sports staff. A native of St. Louis, he was a cornerback
on the Gophers football team in the 1980s.
