Why is the Troy Record used as one of the prominent polls for
D-I college hockey? The answer is: do you konw of many alternatives?
 
I'm only aware of 3 major national polls: the Record, the WMEB poll
(Maine) and WPML (on Michigan's UP, I think). Really, there is really
only one big metro area in the country in which college hockey is
anything close to the pre-eminent sport there: Minneapolis (and
possibly Madison, too, if you consider that a big metro area). The
reason the Troy Record is used is because, well, no other paper does
it.
