The UMD Bulldogs passed the halfway point of the WCHA season this
weekend, mired in last place coming off of a 6-3 loss to the Tigers
Friday night. At the midpoint, the 'Dogs had a 3-11-2 record and 8
points in the league, the same as Anchorage, while playing one more game
than the Seawolves, but the Bulldogs were not discouraged. Heading into
the final minute of the second period of Saturday's game, the Dogs were
down 4-0 and appeared to be headed to yet another sweep. But they scored
in that final minute and came from a 3 goal deficit twice in the third to
beat CC 6-5. CC put on good pressure at the end, but couldn't tie the
game with a power play and an extra attacker. Joe Ciccarello missed his
first career hat trick by seconds as his 125 footer went into the empty
net just after time expired. Thank goodness they only face the Tigers
one weekend this season.

UMD is at home next weekend to face the Pioneers from Denver University,
the other WCHA team that they only play once this season, who are in
second place, just 4 points behind CC. Game times are 7:35 Friday, and
7:05 Saturday.
