In response to the question regarding Wisconsin fans dispersed through the
country:

UW is located in Madison - population under 200,000. The University has 40,000+
students. It is impossible for many to find jobs in the Madison area due to the
size of the city. While the locals make up a fair portion of the student
population, the school also attracts a lot of top students from around the
country. Many of the these transplants choose to stay in Madison. Therefore,
some of the locals (often the most rabid hockey fans) end of looking elsewhere
for jobs after graduation. Meanwhile, the Twin Cities are quite a bit larger
than Madison and can support a higher portion of the graduates from U of Minneso
ta.

I make these statements based upon my observations. Many of my friends (all
local Madisonians) that graduated from UW left the city for jobs and found
careers that would not allow them to return to Madison. Meanwhile, every person
I know that graduated from U of M found a job in the Cities.

So, while both schools attract top students from across the country, the Twin
Cities are better able to incorporate the graduates in the work force.
