Frank serratore and his DU pioneers spoiled the regular season finale
at the world arena.

The pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first but CC came back to
tie it, the equalizer coming on a shorthander that seemed to take a
little spunk out of them.

In the second, DU again opened up a two goal lead, but CC came back
again, the equalizer coming in the final 30 seconds of the stanza.

In the third, CC (who by then knew the final score from St. Cloud)
seemed to be in a shell, more concerned with not losing than winning.
They got the go ahead with about 5 minutes left. DU tied it in the
last minute on a screen shot from the point that seemed to change
direction at least 3 times. CC was called for a penalty shortly
thereafter, and killed off the remainder of regulation.

DU had the better of the overtime, even after the penalty expired, but
couldn't get a winner, so CC hung on for the tie that was enough to
win the league. Next weekend they host Tech, while the pioneers
travel to the twin cities.

In a great act of class after the game, DU coach serratore lined his
team up on the blue line to salute the tigers and then walked the
handshake line.

Don lucia, CC coach, received the obligatory gatorade dousing, and CC
athletic director presented the inaugural gold pan trophy.

Afterwards, 100 alumni CC players back for the end of the world
(arena) were introduced. It was a moving ceremony.
