In a battle of freshman goalies, Dan Choquette of Yale (in his
first ever start) was more solid than Ben Heller of Dartmouth. A big win
for us...for one thing, it prevents me (who was out of town for both of
Yale's previous home wins) from going ofer the season...

This game was exciting to watch in stretches. Both teams played
many frosh, who skated with enthusiam and zeal, even if they had no idea
what they were doing at times. It was clear that these were the worst two
teams in the ECAC, but since they were both on the same level, no one
seemed to mind.
Someone earlier posted "total domination by Yale?" I'd have to say
no. The two teams were pretty much equal (with a slight edge to Yale)
except for the goaltending. After the first ten minutes, Dan Choquette of
Yale played a good game (I'd even go so far to say he was great in the
second, making 19 of 20 saves). Heller, in what may have been his first
start also, let in a fair number of softies.
I have to say a word about the third period. Dartmouth was about
three minutes late coming onto the ice after the break. Since this was
already a long game, we in the crowd (and those on the ice) weren't too
happy about this. I wonder if one of the players didn't say something to
an official. I only say this because I am trying to figure out the five
straight power plays for Dartmouth in the third. These calls weren't
blatant; some of them weren't even marginal. Not that it mattered, but its
beyond me why Dartmouth got 11 power plays to our 4. There was no need for
any whistles in the third. I don't mind a power play decrepency when it's
warranted. This one, however, came out of nowhere.
Yale finishes up the season at 3:00 pm today against Vermont. Hoping we
become one of only three teams that can close our year with a win. :)
