I read a post this morning, saying that the reason for "reassigning" compliance
man Woody Carville was that he is very close to retiring. This move will give
him a chance to leave with (a little) dignity, and continue to be able to feed
and support himself and his family. I then read another post that said Maine
should fire him outright to make a strong show of compliance with NC$$ rules.

C'mon folks - let us not forget that we are still talking about a GAME here -
even if it seems that some of the upper eschelons at a few of the "higher
institutes of learning" have forgotten it. Is it really worth disgracing a
man who put many years (albeit apparently misguided) towards his job, and
taking away his ability to support himself? YES, get him out of there. YES,
if the circumstances were different, fire his butt! But the important thing
is removing him, and letting him retire will perform the same effect.

When I first moved to North Florida, the Florida Gator football team was
finally on the rise. In fact, they finally won their first SEC championship.
Then, scandal was uncovered, the title was stripped away, and coach Charlie
Pell was fired in disgrace as the "official" scapegoat of the problem. Pell
was unable to find work in football, even as an assistant, so he ended up in
some kind of sales position in the Jacksonville area. A month or two ago,
they found him in his car, with the motor running and something stuffed in the
exhaust pipe. Fortunately, they found him in time, and now he can undergo a
little help to overcome his apparently-major problem. (In the Southeast,
most folks have no trouble separating life from football - unfortunately, they
consider FOOTBALL to be MUCH more important!)

On a related front, could someone explain to me how a graduate student like
Patrice Tardif managed to have eligibility remaining in the first place? Did
he transfer in from a 2-year and not play while he was there? Did he complete
his undergrad in 3 years?
