And this story on Cornell hockey ...
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) -- Fifteen Cornell hockey players were cleared of
wrongdoing by the NCAA for participating in the school's longstanding
tradition
of living with local families.
The players, whose eligibility was suspended in May when Cornell reported
the
possible rules violations to the NCAA, will be reinstated when they pay for
the
extra benefits they received, including occasional meals, rides to campus,
use
of television sets and holiday gifts.
No athlete will have to pay back more than $80, Cornell said.
Although Cornell's involvement in arranging private housing for its
hockey
players was found to be a violation of NCAA rules, the committee said the
athletes involved received no specific benefit because individual financial
aid
packages were adjusted accordingly.
The case will be forwarded to the NCAA's enforcement staff, which will
determine if penalties against the school are warranted.
