TV Use in Cornell settlement
The "television use" provision in the Cornell hockey settlement with NCAA
probably refers to the cable fees we pay in Tompkins County to receive TV
signals.  For those who live outside of Ithaca, Ithaca and surrounding
communities are located in a valley with no transmission towers for network TV.
 Unless you live on a hill facing the right directions, it's impossible to pick
up TV signals.  Just about everyone in town who watches TV must connect to the
cable signals provided by American Community Cable (ACC).  ACC charges $15 or
so a month for basic cable (about 15-20 stations).  I take it from Bill Fenwick
that the geniuses at NC$$ must have come up with an amount of time each player
watched TV and assessed the "fines" accordingly.
 
Incidentally, in today's _Cornell Daily Sun_, there is an article about an
Ukrainian transfer student who is a senior at Cornell.  According to the
article, this student "contacted the local chamber of commerce and Rotary Club"
about his lack of funds for housing.  A Rotarian who is also a long-time
Cornell employee, offered to house this student during his first semester at
Cornell.  Currently, this students receives free room & board from his
fraternity, Sigma Phi.
 
Only if Laing Kennedy had known about the Rotary Club that helped international
students.......
