I was the one who started all this by griping about the REgional going back
to Detroit and I think I'll prolong it by adding my $.02.
One point brought up by some individual (whose identity has long since been
lost in the list of messages I got today) was that the question to be
considered was "Would there be good attendance in Minn/Wisc without Minn/Wisc
there?" Not quite a fair question, since there was poor attendance even
WITH a Michigan team there, but I think it's been answered by comments about
the 1991 (?) championships in St. Paul.
Another question was how hockey would compete with a playoff bball team.
I don't recall if Gopher hockey playoffs ever ran up against those NC$$
Tourney Gopher hoop teams or not. I think they did and did just fine.
On a regular basis the hockey Gophers compete with Gopher bball, North Stars
hockey, T-wolves bball, and even the Vikings (and, on rare occasions, the
Twins) and still have good attendance. I think there is a separate hockey
die-hard crowd.
