UMASS DARTMOUTH WINS 15TH IN A ROW, 3-2

NEW BEDFORD, MA– Senior forward Eric Frank (Waltham, MA/Traverse City Enforcers) scored twice and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team held off stubborn Framingham State, 3-2, in their ECAC Northeast Conference game at the Stephen Hetland Memorial Arena Saturday.

Frank scored twice in the first period, beating FSC goaltender Patrick Sampson with the first shot of the game at the 13-second mark of the first period. Sophomore defenseman Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) and junior defenseman Paul Carr (Springfield, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS) assisted.

His second goal came at with 3:06 remaining in the first period, and broke a 1-all tie. Frank slid a shot from the left side into the far side of the net. Junior forwards Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Ray Kirby (Fairhaven, MA/York Stars/Salem State) assisted.

Cory Drouin had tied the game at the 2:13 mark of the first period when he beat freshman goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Junior Warriors) with the Rams’ first shot of the game. Jonathan Lamken drew the lone assist.

Junior forward Kyle McCullough (Danvers, MA/Boston Jr. Blackhawks) gave the Corsairs a 2-1 lead at the 15:49 mark of the second period, converting a pass from junior forward Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep). Junior forward Jim Foley (Brockton, MA/Catholic Memorial HS) also assisted.

Sean Maguire made it a one-goal game when he scored with 22 seconds left in the second period. Lamken and Nicholas Glum drew assists.

Sampson kept FSC close by stopping all 13 UMD shots in the third period.

“It was another one of those tough games, and you have to give Framingham a lot of credit,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “They were battling us hard all the way, and their goaltender made some good saves. We were able to hold on at the end, and I’d much rather be on the winning end of a 3-2 score than on the other end.”

UMD out shot Framingham State, 43-16. Sampson finished with 40 saves to 14 for Green.

The Corsairs improved to 19-4-0 and 12-1 in the ECAC Northeast Conference with the victory, winning their 15th game in a row and 16th in their last 17 games. Framingham State fell to 5-15-1 and 2-11-0 in ECAC Northeast play. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Johnson & Wales next Wednesday evening in their final home game of the regular season.
