TECH AND UMD TIE, 1-1; HUSKIES WEINBERGER NAMED CARNIVAL MVP
Houghton, Mich. -- Michigan Tech and Minnesota-Duluth skated to a 1-1
overtime tie Saturday (Feb. 10) night in game two of Tech's annual
Winter Carnival series. Tech won game one, 3-2, and claimed the
MacInnes Cup, given to the winner of the two-game, total-goals series
by a 4-3 count.
The visitors Andy Reierson scored on a power play at 7:40 of the
opening period for the only marker of the first 20 minutes.
After countless chances, Tech was able to even the game as Brad
Patterson clinked one it off hte post, with Tab Lardner and Clint Way
gaining assists. Tech outshot UMD 15-3 in the middle stanza, but went
into the third period with only a 1-1 tie to show for its efforts.
The Huskies had a 15-9 shooting edge the rest of the way, but neither
team could score and the game ended deadlocked.
Adam Coole made 40 saves for UMD, while Brian Rogers had 24 stops for Tech.
Jarrett Weinberger, who had three goals on Friday, was named the
Winter Carnival Most Valuable Player.
Tech, now 7-18-3 overall, is at MSU-Mankato this coming Friday and
Saturday (Feb. 16-17).
