Here's a question based upon something that happened in the Merrimack-BU
game last night.

With 5:47 left, Merrimack was assessed a penalty, putting BU on the power
play. BU was ahead 2-1. There was a faceoff with about 4:17 left (and :30
left on the penalty). For the next :40, BU controlled play in the
Merrimack zone, until it was discovered that the clocks were not running
and play was blown dead. :40 were taken off the clock (down to 3:37) and
the player in the box was set free.

So technically, BU was on the power play for 2:10. Question is, what
happens if BU scored a PPG during that extra :10? Do you let the goal
stand, or disallow it because of the clock situation? I can't find
anything in the rule book to address this, and so I think it would be left
up to the referee's discretion. But I'm also wondering if this has ever
happened before and what was done.

No idea why it took 40 seconds to realize the clock was not running, but I
don't think anyone in the press box even noticed it. Hey, it was a pretty
good game. :-)
