A very good weekend of hockey, though I really wanted a sweep to keep any
title hopes for the Gophers alive. Minnesota played so much better than
they did last week. The only criticism I have is of Coach Woog. Someone
posted a comment last week that the Gophers might be practicing too hard;
after this series I definitely concur. In the papers leading up to the
game, a big deal was made of the fact that Woog worked them to exhaustion
on Monday and they went at it very intensely all week. I just can't think
of any good reason to be working that hard this late in the season and it
showed in Minnesota's play. During the Saturday game in particular, they
were constantly a step behind CC in getting to the loose pucks. Between
every period, they stressed that they needed to get back to making short
passes as they wroked their way out of their own end, but they kept firing
the puck long; it looked to me like they didn't have the legs to play the
game they said they wanted. For crying out loud, people, ease up; you're
not going to win anything by proving that you can parctice harder than
anyone else.
