From the St. Paul Civic Center:
WCHA semifinals
Minnesota 3, Wisconsin 2
Northern Michigan 8, North Dakota 4
Minnesota ran up a 3-0 lead, but let Wisconsin back into the game in the
third period, with Badgers' Sean Hill scoring in the last minute to make
the score 3-2. Trent Klatt, Larry Olimb, and Jason Miller (shorthanded)
accounted for the Gopher scoring.
North Dakota played solidly for the first 40 minutes, but Northern Michigan
took charge in the third to win 8-4. The Sioux had leads of 2-0 and 4-2,
but were unable to withstand the Wildcats' attack in the third period.
North Dakota and Wisconsin play for third place at 2:05 Monday, with
Minnesota and Northern Michigan meeting for the championship at 7:05.
Fans who have attended tournaments at the St. Paul Civic Center the past
few years are aware of the problems the arena has had with too-warm
temperatures and soft ice. I am happy to report that improvements have
been made to the climate control system, so the building stays cool and the
ice remains hard and fast.
