Friday night playoff scores from the WCHA:
Michigan Tech 3 at Minnesota 5
Colorado College 0 at Northern Michigan 7
St. Cloud State 4 at North Dakota 2
These are the first games of best-of-three series. Minnesota-Duluth at
Wisconsin gets underway tonight.
Minnesota had to struggle to get past the Michigan Tech Huskies, who played
inspired hockey throughout. Tech goalie Geoff Serjeant faced 54 shots, and
didn't give up the game-winner until 16:18 of the third. The Huskies held
a 3-2 lead through much of the second period and into the third. The Gophers
tied the game at 5:48 of the third with a goal by Ken Gernander, and took the
lead to stay with a 40-foot slapshot by freshman defenseman Mike Muller. The
final Gopher goal was scored by Jason Miller after Tech goalie Serjeant was
pulled, for his second empty-net goal in three games.
The teams meet again at 7:05 tonight in Mariucci Arena.
