NOTES
BU injury report: G Scott Cashman sat out last weekend due to blurred
vision (no specific incident triggered consition) and D Peter Ahola
is out with a bruised right foot (blocked shot in BC game 11/11). Both
were due to be examined yesterday (Monday 11/19) before any determination
would be made as to their availablity for tonight's Harvard game.
BU G John Bradley played both weekend games against Denver, making
18 saves in Friday's 12-0 win and 12 saves in Saturday's 9-2 win.
Lowell's 4-3 win over NU Sunday snapped a 9-game winless streak in
Hockey East regular season play, dating back to February 6th. It
was also their first win in seven games against the Huskies, dating
back to 11/18/88 at NU's Matthews Arena. (And before that, NU had
lost something like 8 of 9 to Lowell.)
Lowell goalie Dwayne Roloson was injured with a couple of minutes
left in the Northeastern game with the score 4-3 and was taken to
the hospital. No word on his condition. Mark Richards, generally
perceived as Lowell's #1 netminder, stepped in and immediately
had to make a big stop on Rob Cowie. Richards kept the door shut
to earn the save in the Chiefs' win.
Maine got 3 goals and an assist from junior Scott Pellerin in its
tie and win against visiting Alaska-Anchorage.
Merrimack has a 3-0 record this season in games played on Saturday
night, outscoring the opponents by a 23-9 margin.
The Warriors rebounded from Friday's 11-4 loss to Providence by
pounding Kent State University, 10-2. Agostino Casale, who had
scored four goals the night before, added two more and came inches
from another hat trick. Merrimack's other eight goals were all
scored by eight different players as 15 players had at least a
point. Merrimack led 3-0 after the first period and 7-1 after two.
Goalie Yannick Gosselin was given the start by Ron Anderson,
apparently to boost his confidence after the rough period he had
at Providence (6 goals). The Goose wasn't tested very much (22 saves),
but Anderson's psychological strategy may have paid off for the
remainder of the season. Goose is the Warriors' only hope for a
solid first-string goalie right now.
Pat Morrison made 61 saves in UNH's two losses this week to Merrimack
(3-2) and Northeastern (2-1, ot).
Providence's ten freshmen have accounted for 8 goals and 18 assists,
26 of the Friars' 104 points (25.0%).
STAY TUNED
...for more scores and updated standings tomorrow after the four
games tonight. Thanksgiving weekend, this report goes on the road
to Bowling Green and Kent, Ohio for Western Michigan-Bowling Green
on Friday night and Merrimack-Kent on Saturday night and Sunday
afternoon. Not to mention having my VCR record Harvard-BC Friday
night for later viewing...
