I was listening to the local NPR station, broadcast from the campus of Wayne
State University, near downtown Detroit. They were announcing the results of
the blue ribbon panel determining the direction for athletics. They were
recommending the formation of a men's hockey team and the immediate work on
upgrading all programs to division one.
The Tartars are best known for their fencing team. That should provide some
fodder for something. I'm not aware that they currently even have a club
team. They don't have an arena. That might not be a problem as Cobo Arena
has ice. That's part of the convention center next to Joe Louis where the Red
Wings play. Junior teams have played there.
