According to the Ann Arbor News today Michigan has lost freshman forward
Sean Ritchlin for the rest of year. During Saturday's game against
OSU Ritchlin suffered what was believed to be a deep thigh bruise. The
swelling in his thigh worsened during the night and he was rushed to
emergency surgery to relieve the pressure from what was diagnosed as
compartment syndrome. Doctors say that this is the first case they have
ever seen in a hockey player. (If I recall correctly this is the same injury
that ended the season for Steve Morrison, a linebacker at Michigan a few
years ago.) Ritchlin has been in ICU since Sunday because they were
concerned about the incision becoming infected as it runs from his hip to
his knee. On the brighter side of things coach Red Berenson said that
Brendan Morrison will play this weekend and that he hopes to have freshman
forward Justin Clark, whose been out with a knee injury, back in time to play
ND at the Palace on the 16th.
