The game started off like Dartmouth was still in town with La Skating
Saints scoring 3 times in the first 5 minutes. They played well throughout
the rest of the first period, connecting on 3 of 6 power plays - but not
knowing that they would not have a man advantage for the rest of the night.
Like the previous night SLU let down in the second period and Vermont was
quite capable of taking advantage to tie the score. As SLU coach March put
it "The first period was SLU's, the second was Vermont's, and the third was
a dogfight".
Vermont took its first lead with less than ten minutes to go in the
third, but SLU's Spencer Meany answered quickly to tie it at 5. Things
were very reminiscent of last week's SLU-Lowell game at this point. With 50
seconds left, Marsh sent out the LA gang (Lappin, Lappin, LaCroix, LaCroix,
and Laperriere). They did it with 22 seconds left a Lowell and again with
just 14 seconds to go last night. The game winner would look familiar to
Cornell fans from last year's ECAC semifinal as Laperriere took almost the
same shot from the point which this time glanced off a defenseman's skate
past the helpless goalie. The LA Five's point total goes to 55 (21 goals,
34 assists) in the past two weekends.
