I'm curious as to what the actual distribution of Olympic size ice
sheets *is* in DivI college hockey. The press packet accompanying the
announcement of UNH's new Arena (now under construction) noted that this
would be "the sixth [college rink] in the nation to feature an Olympic-
sized ice surface of 200 x 100 feet instead of the standard 200 x 85
feet." So where are they ??
Mariucci Arena (Minnesota)
Mullins Center (UM-Amherst)
Dane County Coliseum (Wisconsin; recently expanded)
???
???
"new" Snively Arena (New Hampshire)
I'm pretty certain Bright Hockey Center at Harvard is 200 x 85, and I'm
fairly certain that none of the ECAC rinks are Olympic-sized (even the new
Cheel Arena at Clarkson is "only" 200 x 85 feet. Are there any 200 x 100
feet sheets in the CCHA ?? I'm guessing that the other two Olympic-sized
sheets are in the WCHA - perhaps the DECC at UMD, and North Dakota ?? Can
someone with better rink sense supply the two "missing rinks" (ohhh, bad
pun :-) Are there actually more than 5 now in use ??
Cheers from Maryland - Jim
