RECAP
Maine remained unbeaten by sweeping UMass-Lowell, 7-4 & 4-2. The Black
Bears are three games away from tying the NC$$ record for unbeaten streak
in a season. Maine sets new HE records for unbeaten streak and
consecutive wins each game; currently the streaks are: unbeaten, 16 games
(15-0-1) and winning, 14 games. Maine is also unbeaten in its last 50
games at home.
BC, BU, Providence, and Merrimack also posted wins on the weekend. BU's
4-0 win over UNH made them 16-1-1 in their last 18 games. PC won its
third straight game vs Northeastern to move into third place, and the
Friars look to have a great shot at maintaining that position through
the last few weeks of the season. BC, which was in danger of falling
into last place this weekend for the first time ever, is suddenly in
sixth and has a chance at 5th or even 4th next week. Maine and BU
may be running away with the top two spots, but 3rd through 8th are
up for grabs. Note that the 3rd through 8th place teams are all under
.500 in the league, too.
NEXT WEEKEND
Maine puts its unbeaten streak on the line at a rink the Black Bears
have had trouble in before, Northeastern's Matthews Arena. The other
three pairings are all home-and-homes: BU-Merrimack, BC-UML, PC-UNH.
Friday's UML-BC game will be shown on NESN.
Other HE news to be posted as the week goes on, but I wanted to get
the standings out now. Note that all teams have now played 17 HE games
with the exception of BC and Maine who have played 16, but their game
at Maine on 3/2 will even everything out.
I believe tickets for the HE Championships March 19-20 at the Boston
Garden are now available. On Fri 3/19, the semifinal games will be
played at 5 and 8 pm. On Sat 3/20, the consolation (first in HE
since 1989) will be played at 5 pm, followed by the championship at 8.
Contact the Boston Garden Box Office or your local HE school's ticket
office for details.
