Though...they didn't make it too easy on themselves.

Shots on Goal: UAA 43 Scoring: UAA 1-2-2 5
                MSU 23 MSU 4-0-0 4

Mankato State University got on the board first on kind of a fluke goal at 5:51
into the period. The puck ended up a few feet in front of the net as it does
after some rebounds...and as there normally is, there were two Seawolves
waiting there to clear the puck...standard procedure...except they BOTH missed
it... Dave Hansen found his way in and slid it in. UAA came back five minutes
later to score on a very nice play when Mitch Kean slid the puck from behind
the net to Paul Williams who was waiting right outside the crease. Mankato
State then preceded to score three unanswered goals closing the period out at
4-1 Mankato... It wasn't really as much the Wolves not playing well as much as
Gravistin having a real bad start and for the later two...Mankato had the 5-3
and then 5-4 advantage...

However, the second period was a much different story. Both teams skated hard
and neither was able to break through until Randy Muise got a breakaway at
14:44 and popped it up and over netminder Brian Langlot on a backhand shot as
he skated by the left side of the net. This gave UAA the boost that they
needed, and at 17:54, barely three minutes later, Glen Thornborough (although
not a breakaway) pulled the exact same play to put UAA within one point of
catching up.

The Seawolves scored the tying goal at :33 of the third on a slap shot from
atop the left circle to pick up their second powerplay goal of the game. For
the next 15 minutes, both teams skated hard...and it was end to end hockey. It
wasn't until 16:49 that UAA picked up the game winning goal as Mitch Kean spun
around 360 degrees to fire the puck up and over a then sprawled out Langlot to
score UAA's third and final powerplay goal of the game.

Overall, it was a fairly good weekend. There was a marked increase of
instensity and effort displayed by the Seawolves this weekend, and hopefully
the Seawolves might be on the rebound... as they face the Nanooks of Fairbanks
next weekend and then Denver of the WCHA the following...
