The now well established "mythical" Taconite Trophy goes to St. Cloud
AGAIN this year. The winner is determined by the best won lost record
among the four D1 teams in Minnesota. It looks like UMD was AGAIN
the whipping boy of it's instate rivals finishing last in the 4 team
league

Notes
(St Cloud 2-1 playoffs vs UMD)
(BSU 0-6-0 lost 2 games to St. Cloud, UMD and Mankato State
University of Minnesota)
History: Back when there was a chance that UMD might beat the
Gophers once in awhile there was a trophy that went to the series
winner, basically for bragging rights for Minnesota. Rumor has it
that one winter Jeff Fieblekorn and Jesse Bergliot used it as a goal
marker on a frozen Minnesota lake. The trophy, won for so many
seasons by Minnesota, was lost through the ice. (For those of you
who don't know, taconite is a form of iron mined in Northern
Minnesota, and it resembles rabbit droppings.)
