Greg Berge, on East vs. West:

Prior to Harvard phenomenal showing in '89, the Crimson had a dismal
track record. I would not conlcude that "bias" is due to its Ivy-ness as
much
as to its low probabilities of success based on historical trend. We do the
same in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers.

As to the following:

 > It all goes back to high school -- you could tell at a glance the jocks
> from the students, and you just "knew" who was the superior athleete.
>That level of bias, combined with defensiveness and a touch of envy,
> still survives in many people long after those high school days are over.
>
>Their loss -- it's a great sport if you can watch it without bias.

what would college sports be unless we have some bias somewhere?
Afterall, this is what the game is all about -- emotions, wishes, fans,
victories, etc. etc... Watching a game with a cold analytical mind is
like performing autopsy on a date. I would be surprised if Greg doesn't
agree with me on this point.
