The ECAC preliminaries will be held on Tuesday. Some thoughts on the games:

#10 Yale at #7 Colgate

Records: Yale (9-17-3, 6-14-2 ECAC), Colgate (18-11-3, 10-9-3 ECAC)
Prior Meetings: Colgate def. Yale 4-3 in ot at Yale, Colgate def. Yale 5-2 at
home

Every conceivable comparison favors Colgate. They are both coming off of
difficult weekends, Yale managed to beat RPI only to fall to Union in ot in an
effort to gain the #9 seed. Colgate missed out on the preliminary bye falling
to league champion Clarkson in a game where Clarkson had nothing to gain and
Colgate had everything to lose. Colgate has both the best goal scorer, Mike
Harder, and the best goaltender, Dan Brenzavich. Brenzavich got shelled by
Clarkson, only to be replaced just after the midpoint of the game. However,
these two ptp-ers should be able to baffle Yale. Dan Choquette will need to do
everything but choke to keep the Bulldogs in the game, but he has proven
capable on several ocassions this season.

Colgate will need to improve on their power play performance to continue much
beyond the preliminaries, as their performance against Clarkson on Saturday was
absolutely horrendous.

#9 St. Lawrence University at #8 Harvard

Records: SLU (10-19-5, 5-12-5 ECAC), Harvard (10-17-2, 9-11-2 ECAC)
Prior meetings: SLU def. Harvard 6-3 at Harvard, SLU tied Harvard at home

Despite their records, SLU and Harvard are two of the most dangerous teams in
the league. This game should be a very even matchup and I wouldn't want to be
the one making the pick for money. Clint Owen has had his share of ups, downs,
and the bench this season, but when he's on he can stop anything that's sent at
him. Harvard definitely hasn't had the offensive output this season, and I
think SLU and Owen should be able to keep them in check despite their poor
defensive stats. If SLU can get on the scoreboard early, the crowd at Bright
could become dim early. Look to see SLU win by one or maybe 2 with an ENG.

With these predicitions, look for these race to 3 matchups this weekend:

#6 Princeton at #3 Vermont
#5 Union at #4 Rensselaer - wow, what a great matchup for the Capital District
#7 Colgate at #2 Cornell - too much red for me, but still fun for Central NY
#9 SLU at #1 Clarkson - the Route 11 matchup returns for the playoffs for the
first time since '93
