Since the only game involving an ECAC team last week was Princeton's 4-0 win
over Mass Amherst, it isn't too difficult to figure out where the Player of
the Week and Rookie of the Week came from...

The ECAC/USAir Player of the Week was Princeton junior forward J.P.
O'Connor, who set up two of the Tiger goals against Mass Amherst. During
Princeton's current six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1 -- now 6-0-1 after last
night's win over Colgate), O'Connor leads all Tiger scorers with 1-8-9.

The ECAC/USAir Rookie of the Week was Princeton goalie Erasmo Saltarelli,
who in his first start stopped all 12 shots he faced in two periods of play,
sharing the shutout with junior James Konte.

Also, the ECAC is including a series in their press releases on the 25th
anniversary of Cornell's 1969-70 team, which went 29-0 and won the NC$$
championship. Here is the first installment:

Through the first ten games of the 1969-70 season, Cornell's Big
Red juggernaut had outscored the opposition by 65-16. Only one
game -- a 5-4 overtime win at Brown -- was particularly tight, and
heading into the Syracuse Invitational over the holidays, Cornell
warmed up with wins of 7-0, 9-0, and 7-2, over St. Lawrence, RPI,
and St. Lawrence again. The latter two comprised Cornell's
winning effort at the ECAC Holiday Tournament at Madison Square
     Garden.

The club brought a 9-0 mark into Syracuse and captured its
landmark 10th win by taking Boston University, 4-1. It was the
10th straight win in five years over a good Terrier squad. After
the Big Red went up 2-0, current Princeton head coach Don Cahoon
scored for BU, cutting the lead to 2-1. That was as close as the
Terriers would get. BU outshot Cornell, 32-28, but Brian Cropper
was up to the task in the Cornell goal. In the championship game,
Cornell defeated Colgate, 5-3, for the title and win #11.
