Well, the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth came out of the
locker room for the third period, but it sure didn't seem like it. The
Gophers of the Twin Cities campus came out and creamed the Dogs for the
first 10 minutes of the third period, scoring three goals in 3:07 (2 pp
and 1 sh) and the Bulldogs were lucky to only give up 6 goals. A huge
melee (Wow, I've always wanted to use that word) broke out at the 10:28
mark of the third and the Gophers pretty much put it in neutral the rest
of the way (Thank God, or maybe Thank Woog). The line of the
night: McHugh 2G 1A, Bonin 2G 3A, Trebil 1G 3A. Convincing stat for the
weekend: UMD 0 for 16 on the power play, UMTC 5 for 10, including 4 for
6 on Saturday night. The Gophers increase the series lead against the
Dogs to 89-50-9.

Interesting note of the evening: I made a huge fool of myself. I was
working the downstairs pass gate for the media, players, etc., and this
guy comes up and is wondering if the guy from channel 10 put him on the
press list. I looked at him, and he looked familiar, but I couldn't
place his name, so I asked who he was. Well, he was Bill Watson (UMD
82-85, 1985 Hobey Baker winner, Duluth legend) Well after he said that,
I looked at him again and it really hit me and I just said, "Go ahead"
and hung my head. Oh well, you can't know them all.
