CCHA PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- June 2, 1994
 
SEVENTEEN CCHA PLAYERS SELECTED FOR U.S. OLYMPIC FESTIVAL - '94
 
Twelve current and five incoming Central Collegiate Hockey Association
players are among the 80 players chosen to compete in the United States
Olympic Festival - '94 set for July 4-10 at St. Louis Arena. Forty of the
players are top candidates for the 1995 U.S. National Junior Team, which
will compete in the 1995 World Junior Championship in Red Deer, Alberta,
from December 26, 1994 through January 4, 1995. The remaining 40 players
are candidates for the 1994 U.S. Over-20 Team, which will participate in
the 1994 Tampere Cup in Tampere, Finland. Rosters for each of the teams
include 10 players from the junior pool and 10 players from the over-20
pool.
 
In addition to the players selected to the Festival, Ferris State Head
Coach Bob Daniels will serve as the head coach of Team West, while former
CCHA coaches Bob Mancini and Bob Motzko will serve as the head and
assistant coach, respectively for Team North.
 
Representing Team West will be goaltender John Grahame, defenseman Keith
Aldridge and forwards Matt Alvey and Rob Valicevic from Lake Superior,
defenseman Chris Slater and forward Sean Berens from Michigan State. They
are joined by Michigan forwards Kevin Hilton and Ryan Sittler and Bowling
Green forward Brian Holzinger.
 
Skating for Team North will be Ohio State netminder Tom Askey, Michigan
defenseman Blake Sloan and Lake Superior forward Jon Battaglia. Michigan
State recruit Richard Keyes, a forward, will play for Team South, while
Lake Superior defenseman Brad Willner along with Miami forward Kevyn Adams,
Michigan State forward Tony Tuzzolino and Michigan newcomer Matt Herr will
play for Team East.
 
LSSU'S JACKSON NAMED HEAD COACH OF U.S. NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM
 
USA Hockey has named Jeff Jackson head coach for the 1995 United States
National Junior Team, which will compete in the 1995 WJC, December
26-January 4 in Red Deer, Alberta.
 
Jackson completed his fourth season as head coach at Lake Superior State
University in 1993-94, guiding the Lakers to their second NCAA Championship
in the past three years and third straight title game appearance. During
his tenure at LSSU, Jackson has compiled a 129-32-17 overall record and has
led the Lakers to three CCHA playoff championships and one CCHA
regular-season title.
 
Players will be evaluated for possible participation with the 1995 U.S.
National Junior Team at the USA Hockey All-Junior Camp (June 19-26 in
Colorado Springs), the U.S. Olympic Festival (July 1-10 in St. Louis) and
the USA Hockey National Junior Team Camp (August 14-21 in Lake Placid).
 
CCHA COUNCIL APPROVES ONE REFEREE, TWO LINESMEN OFFICIATING SYSTEM
 
Central Collegiate Hockey Association Council unanimously approved the CCHA
Coaches recommendation to use the one referee, two linesmen of ficiating
system for the 1994-95 season during its meeting in Ann Arbor last month.
 
COMINGS AND GOINGS AROUND THE CCHA
 
Miami University Head Coach George Gwozdecky resigned on May 19 to become
the head coach at the University of Denver. Lake Superior junior goaltender
Blaine Lacher has opted to sign a multi-year contract with the Boston
Bruins and skip his senior season at LSSU. The Lakers announced the signing
of Denver, Colorado, native John Grahame to a National Letter of Intent.
Grahame, a 6-2 l95-pound netminder, played for the Sioux City (Iowa)
Musketeers of the United States Hockey League during the i993-94 season. He
compiled a 9-10-1 record with a 3.81 goals-against average and .898 saves
percentage.
