PROVIDENCE'S MATT LIBBY NAMED MOST IMPROVED
AT NEW ENGLAND HOCKEY WRITERS BANQUET

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior defenseman Matt
Libby of Saco, Maine earned the Paul Hines Award as New England's Most
Improved Player at the annual New England Hockey Writers Banquet on April
11 in Saugus, Mass. Libby becomes the third Friar to earn the honor and
the first since Jerry Keefe received the award in 1999.
Libby, a All-New England selection and a Second-Team HOCKEY EAST
All-Star, was the Friars' highest scoring defenseman this season, recording
30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 39 games. Libby entered his senior
season with just eight goals and 13 assists in 110 games at Providence. In
addition to increasing his scoring this season, Libby served as a
co-captain and was a vital part of the development of PC's young defensive
core.
Libby, a graduate of Thornton Academy, is the son of Gene Libby.
In addition to Libby earning the Paul Hines Award and being named
All-New England, PC Head Coach Paul Pooley was named New England Coach of
the Year and Devin Rask and Nolan Schaefer earned All-New England accolades
at the Banquet.
