The College Hockey Computer Rating uses a connected schedule graph and
a least squares optimization to rate the 45 Division I college hockey
teams. This method considers a team's opponents, and their opponents,
etc., until all 547 Division I games are included.

In addition to rating the teams, a strength of schedule is calculated
for each team. The schedule strength can be computed by averaging the
ratings of a team's opponents for each game.

For every game, the teams are evaluated based on: the outcome (win,
lose, tie); the margin of victory; percentage of goals allowed; the
site of the game (home, away, neutral ice); and overtime or regulation
time.

Only games against other Division I teams are considered.

Notes for 2/9/92

Minnesota regained the #1 ranking from Michigan. Since 1/4, Minnesota
has held that spot 3 times, as has Michigan.

St. Lawrence and Clarkson both rebounded from poor weeks to return to
nearly the same ranks they held 2 weeks ago. SLU was 13th on 1/25 and
CU was 19th.

Not surprisingly, Bowling Green was the big ratings gainer (up 4.32
points) after sweeping TCHCR #1 Michigan. At the other end, Dartmouth
jumped up 3.96 with its 3-of-4 weekend on the road. Other notable
climbers were Brown (+2.79), North Dakota (+2.54), Kent (+2.49) and
Boston University (+2.12).

Michigan was the big tumbler, down 5.19 rating points. Northern
Michigan went down by 3.33 after also tasting the broom.

Illinois-Chicago maintained the #1 schedule, with BG moving up a notch
to #2.

Following Saturday's results, Kent was 0.56 points ahead of
Alaska-Fairbanks for the #2 independent ranking. With their Sunday
victory, the Golden Flashes are now 2.87 points ahead of the Nanooks.

While most teams change rankings from week to week, Notre Dame has been
TCHCR #41 since the new year.
