It appears all but announced that Brown's all-time leading scorer
(68-112-180), Bill Gilligan '77, has accepted an assistant coaching
position in the UMass-Amherst hockey program.

Bill is the younger brother of Mike Gilligan, head coach of the
University of Vermont Catamounts, and was an All-Ivy, All-New England
forward at Brown who garnered All-East and All-America honors as co-captain
of the 1975-76 Ivy Champion Bear squad that advanced to the NCAA Frozen
Four in Denver, losing to Michigan Tech in a double overtime semi before
rebounding to edge the Boston University Terriers, 8-7, for third place in
the conso.

Following his graduation and one season with the Cincinnati
Stingers of the World Hockey League, Bill moved to Sweden where he played
for, and then coached, a Division I professional team. During the bulk of
his 20 years in Europe, Bill was player, coach, and then general manager of
the Division I professional team in Bern, Switzerland, as well as general
manager of the Swiss National Team. His success in each of these positions
has earned Bill high regard in the pro hockey world and bodes well for the
UMass Minutemen.
