For the second time in four days, Cornell and Colgate settled nothing. The
Big Red gave up an early goal, then battled back to take a 3-1 lead halfway
through the game, only to fall victim to a string of penalties and some
defensive zone mistakes. Eddy Skazyk had a strong game, making 40 saves,
six of them in overtime which was thoroughly dominated by the Red Raiders;
Cornell didn't get off a single shot during the extra five minutes, and was
lucky to escape with the tie.

If you've been on the net for any length of time, you know that I rarely
criticize officials or get involved in discussions about them. Therefore,
when I call this one of the most ineptly officiated games I've seen in a
long time, you know it was pretty bad. How about:
- an official who signals a penalty, then in the course of calling it
forgets which player he wanted to call the penalty on, so he has to ask the
coach to designate someone to serve the penalty;
- a puck flies into the Colgate bench, hits something, and rebounds back on
to the ice; play continues;
- a puck deflects up and hits the pressbox, which is behind one of the
goals, and bounces back on to the ice; play continues;
- a penalty is called to the goaltender, and the officials let the coach
choose a player from the bench to serve the penalty (instead of one of the
players who was on the ice at the time);
- at least three faceoffs held at the wrong spot;
- an official signalling a delayed offside, then turning his back on the
play to get out of the way of the players, thereby putting himself out of
position to see the attacking team touch up;
- waiting a long time to blow the whistle when a goalie is holding the
puck, which led to at least one set of coincidental late hit penalties
which could have been easily avoided by just blowing the play dead;
- a "fight" which consisted of two players, one without a stick, sort of
holding on to each other and rolling around on the ice, with essentially no
action on the part of either player which could by any stretch of the
imagination be called a punch.

So if you see John Murphy or Peter Dawes coming to a rink near you, hide
the women and children.
