[ Forwarded from Brian Farenell. I think he meant to send this to the

Concerning the Plaindealer's remarks on the SLU-Cornell controversy
of 1991: I dont think that the comment shows a lack of understanding
of the process; I think it shows a lack of professional objectivity.
Since the teams were so close together in records in the regular season
and the other categories Bill mentioned as criteria and since Cornell
had a better record against teams "under consideration" while SLU beat
Cornell in the semis, it
's fair to say that it was a tossup. I dont think it was CLEAR that
Cornell was more deserving, nor do I think SLU was "robbed". It was
close and the committee went with Cornell. I dont think the Plaindealer's
implication that SLU clearly deserved the bid, is accurate nor do I think
that Bill's counterassertion that SLU had no claim to a bid is right
either.
I think the only problem with the Plaindealer is that news stories are
supposed to be objective.

By the way, who is on the committee? I know of: Joe Marsh, BU's Jack
Parker, Northern Michigan's Rick Comley, but who is the fourth member
(presumably from the CCHA)?

[ I'm not sure, but I think the fourth member is Bowling Green's Jerry
  York -- Bill ]
