Clarkson skated well the first couple of minutes in the game, but then
eased up and allowed Princeton to control the game more. The play was
pretty lack luster. Neither team set up any extended offensive
pressure. Princeton got some extra shots off from the points when
Clarkson failed to clear their zone. Princeton has several tall players
on defense and kept Clarkson away from the net and forced bad angle
shots.

Clarkson must have gotten an earful in between periods because the
offense came out a bit sharper, not more intense though. Clarkson
scored their first goal at 5:31. Princeton failed to clear their zone
under fore-checking pressure by Sabo. Sabo took the puck and passed it
back to Tavi at the point. Tavi moved to the middle of the blue line
and let a low shot go. Belanger, standing five feet in front of and to
the side of the net redirected the puck under Fiander's pads. Fiander
saw the shot all the way, but could change direction quick enough to
cover the redirect. Clarkson went up 2-0 at 9:59. d'Orsonnens passed
the puck at mid-ice to Fotheringham who came into the Princeton zone on
the left side. Fotheringham controlled the puck, skating around behind
the net. As he came out along the boards, he passed it to Thomas at the
right face off dot. Thomas spun and let a quick slap shot go that beat
Fiander low again. The teams were playing 4 on 4. That was Clarkson's
2nd shot of the period, the first was Belanger's goal. The fourth line
of Clarkson was working the hardest all night. Fotheringham, Green and
Theriault were hustling when the rest were just flat on their feet.
Later in the period, Fiander had to stop a streaking Marchant on a break
away. The Princeton defenseman, who started out even with Marchant at
center ice, was four steps behind by the blue line. Fiander came out of
the net to challenge the freshman. He didn't commit either way but
faded back as Marchant got closer. Marchant was able to put Fiander in
the back of the net, but Fiander got his glove on Marchant's shot and
knocked it away. Princeton had a couple of chances. One came when
Currie came out far to play the puck. He put right on to a Princeton
forward's stick, whose shot hit the side of an empty goal.

In the final period, Clarkson played better. The offense applied some
more pressure, controlled the play more and the defense held Princeton
at bay in the last third of the period to preserve the shutout.
Marchant scored the third goal from Belanger at 1:22. Marchant and
Belanger played a give and go enterring the Princeton zone to the right
of Fiander. Marchant kept the puck and wristed a shot the slipped in
between the post and Fiander's shoulder. Princeton had some quality
scoring chances in the period, but Currie was playing very well in goal.
Even with Dubinsky of Clarkson insisting on passing the puck to a
Princeton player all night, even in the defensive zone, Princeton
couldn't score. Andre Faust of Princeton had a couple of chances just
by himself.
